More people than ever are choosing to be vegetarian and vegan, including such celebrities as Alicia Silverstone, Andre 3000, Tobey Maguire, Natalie Portman, and Alec Baldwin. And with good reason.

There is considerable evidence that suggests positive relationships between vegetarian diets and risk reduction for several chronic degenerative diseases and conditions, including obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and some forms of cancer.

And while turkey is traditionally a part of our Thanksgiving meal, it is not a health food. Some cuts contain more cholesterol and fat than many cuts of beef. Also, turkeys on today's factory farms have been genetically bred to grow so quickly that their bones and leg muscles often give out under the stress of supporting their upper bodies. As a result, many are barely able to stand.

This holiday season, encourage your audience to begin a new, healthier tradition by celebrating without causing suffering.
