This Earth Day, Emily Deschanel of the Hit TV Series Bones Explains Why 'Meat's Not Green' in PETA Ad
Emily Deschanel is both vegan and an environmentalist—and she knows that those two things go hand in hand. In her television public service announcement (PSA) for PETA, the beautiful and brainy star of Bones makes it clear that "meat's not green."
"There is no such thing as a meat-eating environmentalist," Emily says in the spot, acknowledging the rising interest in taking steps to protect the planet before adding, "While I think it is terrific to recycle and drive a hybrid, you can have an even greater impact on the environment by making one simple choice—don't eat meat."
Why is Emily urging people to "fight climate change with diet change"? A recent United Nations report found that the meat industry produces more greenhouse gasses than all the SUVs, cars, trucks, planes, and ships in the world combined. Greenhouse gasses cause climate change, which could lead to catastrophic disasters (think droughts, floods, hurricanes, rising sea levels, and disease outbreaks) unless we drastically reduce the volume of gasses that we generate.
With the 40th anniversary of Earth Day on April 22, 2010, why wait? There's no time like the present to fight climate change, improve your health, and reduce animal suffering by going vegan. You can start by ordering a free copy of our vegetarian/vegan starter kit and by helping to get this PSA on the air today!
